Justin came home today weighing 5 lbs. It's not realistic for him to stay in the hospital until he builds up his immunity because he'd probably have to stay until he's 2. But there are additional precautions that are being taken to prevent him from getting really sick again. He was sent home on daily breathing treatments to help with his lungs and will receive these through the end of winter. And because of his prematurity he'll be able to receive RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) treatments. RSV is a very contagious virus that gives most people a plain old common cold. But in infants, especially preemies with BPD (chronic lung disease), which Justin has, it can be more serious.
People can still come and visit but we'd like to space out visits so he doesn't get overwhelmed with a lot of people too soon. Ideally I'd love for everyone to gown, glove and mask up before holding him but I do realize that's a little extreme. But anyone wanting to hold him will have to wash their hands and no kissing or touching his hands is allowed.
He was such a cutie today. I'm so glad I got to see him. WELCOME HOME JUSTIN (again)!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for you that Justin is home again. Judging from the look in his eyes, he's probably trying to tell us: "You can look, but you'd better not touch me!"--- only my mom and pop. Maybe Justin is allergic to cats.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that Justin is back home with his family. I'm sure he is just as happy to be home as you are. Can't say I don't blame you for wanting to take all the precautions you can with visitors to keep him from getting sick again. I would be the same way.
ReplyDeleteJust a suggestion. When people come over put a receiving blanket over which ever side they will be holding Justin. That way he will not come into face to face contact of the pollutants that have touched the clothing on that side. Also when you guys come home, change into a clean shirt when you hold him.
