Tiny Tornadoes

The boys had their first official karate class last week.  Last month we did two private lessons to see how'd they respond and in typical Justin & Nathan fashion they were all over the place.  So Sensei Shihan asked if we were okay with him taking the boys into the group for the second lesson since kids sometimes do better when they see other kids doing the same thing and he was right.  That being said we didn't want to be completely committed and the boys not respond well so we signed them up for 1 month and they'll attend class twice a week.  We'll re-evaluate in one month to see if they've made any progress and should continue or if we should take a break and revisit next year when they're more mature.

So of course their first official day in class they were in rare form; not focused, not paying attention, not following instructions, not listening.  It didn't help that the Sensei they started with was on his honeymoon so they weren't as familiar with the other Sensei teaching class that day.  But I'm hopeful that these lessons will help with concentration, self discipline and respect.  And when I researched karate dojos this one had good reviews regarding how well the Sensei's dealt with kids with special needs.
