Halloween 2013

We've taken the boys trick or treating at Crossroads for the past 3 years but today was the first time the boys have actually trick or treated on Halloween.  J has been so excited about Halloween since Crossroads a few weeks ago and keeps saying Halloween & I want my Scooby Doo.  So even though it was raining, the 4 of us braved the weather and went to about 7 houses.  But J wasn't finished; as we were walking up to our house he started crying saying he wanted more so Carl took him out for more trick or treating.  I'm  excited that the boys have finally started understanding holidays/events!

Scooby Doo!
Happy Halloween!

Trike A Thon

Earlier this month Nate's school hosted their annual Trike A Thon which is the PTA's fundraiser for the year.  I'm still in awe that they raised  just over $9K.  Nate had a blast and since he goes 5 days a week he was able to ride both days.  Every time he sees the staff parking lot, which is where the event took place, he asks to ride his tricycle.

Nate's 1st Day of School & Asthma Diagnosis

Nate's first day of Kinder 3's was a success and no tears were shed by either of us.  The morning started off a little rough; Nate didn't really want to hold his book bag for pictures outside the house and then fussed almost the entire ride to school.  But once he got out of the truck and saw the other kids it was all good.  He had a small meltdown when I tried to take him to the bathroom (he's recently developed a fear of public restrooms) but he was ready for class to start and tried to get into the room before his teacher even opened the door.  He went in and washed his hands all by himself, found his animal on the chart and signed himself in and then started roaming the room looking for stuff to get into.  I gave him a hi-five, hug and kiss and told him to have a good day and I would see him at 3:20.

We weren't that lucky the next day.  I got a call from Nate's teacher around noon saying that he was having a hard time breathing.  The call was a little weird though because there was a parent volunteer in the classroom who was a nurse and was telling the teacher exactly what was going on so the teacher was relaying info to me. My first response was he needs a breathing treatment, I'll come get him.  But then the nurse said the teacher was saying the wrong thing and she didn't mean to scare me.  I asked if he was having retractions and she said no, but 30 seconds later the nurse said tell mom to come get him.  I quickly pack up at work and as I'm walking out the door I get a call from the school asking if I was in route and that if things got worse they were going to call EMS which of course freaked me out.  I called the pediatrician and got an appointment for 1:50 but when I got to the school everyone agreed it had gotten worse and I really needed to take him to the ER ASAP.  The nurse didn't want me to be alone in case things took a turn for the worse so the principal drove us.  We were immediately taken back and they started a breathing treatment and gave him a steroid shot.  Fortunately the breathing treatment helped quickly so we were only there a couple of hours to make sure he was okay.  So Nate is now officially diagnosed with asthma; he's had 2 wheezing attacks before but only with a cold so this is the first time he's had an attack out of the blue.  He's doing much better and we now have an asthma action plan on file with the school.

Family Fun Fest Carnival

A few weeks ago I met a friend and her daughter at our City's family fun fest carnival.  Carl was out of town for a photography workshop so the boys and I shared plenty of quality time together.  It was also a milestone for us; Nate is newly potty trained but since I wasn't sure what the bathroom situation would be at the carnival I put a Pull Up on both him and Justin just to be on the safe side.  But neither of them would go in their Pull Up so yay for no more diapers!

J's 1st Day of School

Today was J's 1st day of his LAST year in ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education) preschool.  He was so excited for school to start and waited impatiently for the bus to arrive asking "mommy where's the bus, I'm ready to go".  No tears for either of us this year; J excitedly ran to the bus and only turned around to wave goodbye to me when the bus driver reminded him.  And when he was dropped off the bus driver said he asked "where's mommy" as they pulled up and he excitedly ran off the bus and into the house.
