Last week I got a call from J's school saying he had hit his head and it's best that I come pick him up. At that time all I knew was that he was hurt while playing in the gym, he cried briefly, wasn't bleeding but had a pretty good "goose egg". On my way to pick him up I called his pediatrician and scheduled an appointment, which was suggested by the school. But when I got to the school J seemed fine, although started crying as soon as he saw me but I knew he was okay because he was quiet up until the point I walked in the room. And while I was talking to the para pro to find out what really happened he grabbed his coat and hat and put them on and then his book bag and started walking out of the room.
The para explained that J and another little boy were playing on a scooter and the other boy let go but J flew into the lunchroom tables. She said he immediately got up and ran to her for a hug and cried for about 10 seconds. But his head started swelling immediately so they thought it best to call me to be better safe than sorry. They put ice on his head while they waited on me and checked his pupils which appeared to be fine. So other than being a little clingy they said he wasn't disoriented. So needless to say I called the pediatrician and cancelled the appointment; good thing I did because as soon as we got home J was completely back to his old self playing and jumping around.
