So this appointment was the first one where Dr. Hirsch was actually concerned about J's weight. Yes he's finally on the growth chart, albeit at the lowest percentile, and yes he did have some growth (2 lbs and 2.5 inches), but she'd like to recheck his weight in 3/4 months. We talked about diet, but the thing is we really don't restrict what J eats. He loves cheese so gets plenty of that, he drinks milk twice a day. His appetite is pretty hearty and he's always asking for seconds. He's also getting pretty good at trying new dishes we give him. And he snacks regularly throughout the day. So the only thing we're switching is adding Pediasure back to his diet to give him even more calories. Other than that, we'll wait until next year for his follow up endocrinology appointment which is when we'll more than likely start hormone growth therapy.
She was concerned about his focus and attention span, which we already know is lacking. We're hopeful that karate will help in that respect. But she was very happy that overall he's healthy and that we didn't have any sick visits at all during the last cold & flu season. We just need to get some more meat on him.
